Ophthalmologists should be prepared for life-threatening reactions during retinopathy of prematurity screening, new research suggests. "Cardiopulmonary arrest can occur from just instillation of eyedrops in a premature infant seen for ROP in an outpatient setting, and pediatric ophthalmologists should be prepared to handle such an emergency in their office," warns the main author.
